Nissan and Mazda Newbridge, Edinburgh
A large double dealership development for the client’s relocated Nissan and Mazda franchises on a prominent site in Edinburgh’s expanding ‘Luxury Car Village’
to the west of the city.
The uniquely challenging site lies directly underneath the Edinburgh Airport flightpath, as well as adjacent to the M9 motorway, and called for a bespoke
architectural solution. The dealership’s raking roof form rises up from the rear to maximise the headroom available beneath the flightpath. The two
showrooms have full-height glazing to the main public frontage away from the motorway and this elevation culminates in a distinctive splayed prow addressing
the A89, enhanced by bold brand signage and internal illuminated features.
The extensive building contains two showrooms with shared office facilities between, achieving the brand separation which was an important consideration
for both manufacturers. A large shared 18-bay workshop plus valet facilities sit behind these and staff accommodation and parts department are housed
in a two-storey volume at the northern end where height restrictions do not apply.
